JD sought to spotlight their sponsorship with one of the world’s biggest sporting icons. They turned to RWD Agency to craft a concept for multiple activations featuring Anthony Joshua. The goal: to deliver a unique customer experience, attract interest from influential personalities, generate large-scale engagement across their channels, and launch them into the podcast space.

RWD Agency meticulously researched Anthony Joshua’s unique attributes and USPs to develop a dynamic campaign. The strategy included a UK roadshow featuring a custom-built punch bag machine, where we ran a competition for regional winners to earn a VIP experience at his upcoming fight. The activation was a huge success, gaining organic virality across boxing and lifestyle social media channels.
In addition, we hosted three exclusive, intimate events at key retail locations (Oxford Street and Stratford). These sought-after events created significant buzz, inviting key personalities, influencers, and lucky fans from AJ’s fan base. Each event provided an elevated experience, allowing attendees to spend quality time with Anthony Joshua in a meet-and-greet format. The events featured insightful interviews with carefully crafted questions that revealed perspectives not seen on other platforms. AJ also participated in engaging activities throughout, adding an entertaining and interactive element to the experience.
One standout moment came when we highlighted AJ’s rapping talent, encouraging him to “spit a few bars.” He graciously agreed, resulting in another organically viral moment that exploded across social media, amassing over 12 million views globally.
The campaign culminated in a live podcast event, where we transformed the top floor of JD Sports’ Oxford Street store into a premium JD Fan Zone. The space featured a high-end stage and podcast setup for the inaugural episode of the JD Podcast. The episode debuted at number one on the podcast charts, cementing the campaign’s success and further elevating JD’s brand presence.
